Wool Best in Class at Harrogate Flooring Show
Over 200 exhibitors from around the world attended the Harrogate Flooring Show last week and the wool carpet industry was out in force. The show provided a great opportunity to catch up with customers and colleagues and it was fantastic to see the ‘buy wool’ message be communicated in such a persuasive and powerful way.
You couldn’t go far within the show without seeing some of the beautiful wool carpets on display and it was clear that carpet manufacturers are thinking of more creative ways to showcase the benefits of wool carpet – the Brintons stand for example had a stunning display of carpet made into a countryside scene with rolling hills and a river running through it. The trend of natural tones and chunky textures – which wool lends itself so well to was also evident from the wool carpets on display.
The Wool Trends Area, created by British Wool and the Flooring Show showcased the benefits of wool carpet for the interiors sector highlighting key upcoming design trends. British Wool also featured their ‘Meet Richard’ campaign – highlighting the story of wool from fleece to floor and the stylish and durable benefits of wool that make it the fibre of choice for flooring. The Wool Carpet Focus Group stand showed visitors why it’s cool to buy wool with its natural properties and they demonstrated wool being hand spun, proving to be a real crowd pleaser once again. The WCFG also launched it’s ‘Step Inside’ marketing campaign with a leaflet that advises consumers about the benefits of wool carpets.
We were also delighted to have our yarns incorporated into the Trends Hub at the show, curated by Scarlet Opus. We spoke to Victoria Redshaw, Founder and Lead Futurist at Scarlet Opus who said, “The trends we’re showcasing at the show are all rooted in nature, encouraging us to escape from our busy urban lives and reconnect with the natural world around us. Featuring earthy natural tones and chunky textures, wool fits into this theme beautifully as a truly sustainable material.
“The hard work and innovation that goes into developing woollen yarns for carpet is what allows designers to be creative with flooring. By experimenting with colour and texture, Lawton Yarns is really keeping in touch trends wise allowing their customers to be one step ahead and deliver carpets that are really on-trend right now. As a fibre, wool has some seriously boast-worthy properties and the woollen yarns worked perfectly to demonstrate some of the strongest upcoming interior trends.”
